Parking Troubles?

If you're having trouble finding parking on Wednesdays due to the Wednesday Farmers Market - Barkz customers can park in the parking garage at Merrill Gardens. There are 12 (2 hour) FREE parking spots. Currently no one knows about these spots - so you'll be able to use them.

If they have filled up you can always use the valet parking at the Heathman Hotel on Wednesdays. The parking is free but they ask you to tip the valets. You will need a Barkz Parking Permit. If you would like to take advantage of this please send us an email info@barkz.com and we'll send you one.

*IF you just need dog food - don't forget you can just call us up and we'll run it out to you if you can't find parking.

Save Kirkland's 4th of July Fireworks & Parade

Some of you may or may not know but the City of Kirkland deleted the budget for the 4th of July Fireworks and Parade. Celebrate Kirkland is a non profit organization that organizes the yearly fireworks display and the parade with the masterful leader - Penny Sweet - who c0-owns the Grape Choice.

If you enjoy the Kirkland 4th of July Fireworks and/or the parade please visit www.celebratekirkland.org and find out how you can volunteer, contribute or participate in the parade.

Barkz may not be in the parade this year due to logistics (hopefully next year) but Barkz supports Celebrate Kirkland!

June Update

Happy Summer! If you missed our Barkz Monthly Update here it is!

We have brought back some playgroups on Saturdays and we have brought back breed specific playgroups. Breed Specific Playgroups will occur on Saturdays at 3:00 pm. They are exactly like regular playgroups all safety rules will apply. Each playgroup is 30 minutes for $5.00. All dogs have to be Barkz members and be current with their vaccinations: DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies. As well all dogs are to be on flea treatments. Therefore on June 6th at 3:00 pm we will have Lab Play, June 13 - Havanese, June 20 - Newfie, June 27th - Puggle and July 11 - Bulldog Play. This gives everyone a chance to meet up with potential relatives. Please RSVP as space is limited.

Many people have asked us for informative websites. Ones we like are www.dogfoodanalysis.com and http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/ . This month's Whole Dog Journal has an interesting article about socialization of puppies.

We have some new products: new ribbon collars, new ribbon leashes & harnesses as well as new leather USA collars (under $16.00) and leather leashes (under $35). We have also brought in USA Buffalo and Elk treats (under $7)as well as some USA rawhides. The rawhides - Wholesome Hide (all cows raised in the USA and the Rawhide is made in the USA). These rawhides were written up in the May 2009 Whole Dog Journal as the best rawhides based on quality. (Small ones $1.55 to $7.50 for the large ones) We have the article in the store if you would like to read more information.

Just and FYI - We do carry sunscreen for the light skinned dogs and dogs who have white fur on their muzzle. The light skinned dogs can get sun burned.
In addition we have had great success with our doggles - sunglasses - yes they provide UV protection and great for dogs that ride on the back of motorcyles or with their heads out the window.

New Socialization Class for you and your dog starting Jul. 2 at 5:15pm. More information will be posted our website. We do still have space in our May 30th Level II class and our June 13th P1 and Oh B1 classes. We also hope to start a kids workshop in the summer.

Finally - many of you are aware that the Kirkland July 4th Fireworks and Parade are in jeopardy due to budget cutbacks. If you would like to donate or find out more information please visit www.celebratekirkland.org

Looking forward to seeing you and your dog soon.
