Treatstix & Canine Genius Toys -Keeping Reef occupied during recovery

If you haven't met Reef - she's normally in the store on Mondays and Wednesdays before 3pm. For the past 6 weeks she has not been in because she had surgery on her elbow which is not recovering very well. She will go in for another exam and another xray and hopefully it will tell us something.

One of the things when a dog has to go through recovery - the vets always inform us to keep them calm. Keeping an active 65lb 3year old lab quiet without drugs is very difficult. A few things to keep in mind. Because your dog is not as active be sure to reduce their level of food. i.e. Reef normally eats 3 cups of Taste of the Wild per day but now that she is in recovery - she only gets 2 cups. If I give her a raw bone at night I do reduce her food as it will add to her waist line. The toys that have been great relief - are the - Mikes and the Treatstixs. Sticking biscuits in the mikes and especially the dental savvy treats (helps keep Reef's breath fresh) takes her 15 minutes to get out because of their shape. I use the Treatstix to feed her in the morning and in the evening. I can fit 1 cup of food in there. If you want something that can fit more food - try the bob-a-lot.

Hope this helps!
